LEVY FACTS

YOU DECIDE ON November 7th 2023

A letter to our New Richmond community from Village Council

Dear Neighbor,
The Village of New Richmond has a full-time Police Department and a full-time Fire and EMS Department
and both are in need of increased funding.
Village voters are being asked to approve two 4.0 mil levies for your safety services on November 7th.
Village Council has placed a levy on the ballot for Police Services and a second levy on the ballot for Fire
and EMS Services. Both levies are needed, but as a Council, we have decided to allow our residents to
choose which levy or levies they are willing to support. The money generated by the levies is placed into
dedicated funds exclusively for expenses associated with each emergency service department.

By passing the Fire and EMS levy, you are helping fund the operations of the New Richmond Fire and EMS
Service. This includes the cost to maintain fire appliances, employee salaries, vehicles, and equipment
used to fight fires, conduct rescue operations, and assist with response and recovery operations for
natural disaster events like floods and storms. Our Fire and EMS Department has always provided
excellent service to our residents.

By passing the Police levy you are adding funding for our Police Services. This includes increasing police
officers on patrol, providing and maintaining motor vehicles, officer salaries, communications, and other
equipment needed by the department. The Police Department has done an excellent job of reducing
crime, including drug activity in the community.

Over the years, Village resources in the general fund have decreased due to compensating for the
shortages for the two departments. Real estate tax incomes have decreased in part by the closure of the
Beckjord Power Station.
These levies are needed to provide ongoing support of our emergency service departments. The
additional revenues would alleviate the stress on the balance of the general fund. They would also make
other funding from the general fund available for the Village to repair or pave roads and maintain parks.

You may ask, “What will the levy cost a homeowner”?

For a $100,000 home, a 4.0 mil levy will cost
$140.00 per year.
Sincerely Yours,
New Richmond Village Council
